A policeman, identified as Prapra, on Tuesday shot a Ghanaian identified simply as Andem, who was an electrician at the Aroma area of Awka, the Anambra State capital. Interesting enough, when the matter was reported to the Police, the ASP asked 'are you sure the shooter is a policeman??' Is she serious at all?
Andem was said to have sustained gunshot injury in the neck and was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Awka by sympathizers.It was gathered that doctors at the hospital confirmed him dead on arrival.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that there was no reason for the incident.
He explained that it was the custom of the policeman to shoot indiscriminately in the area.
He said, “The policeman shoots sporadically with his service pistol each time he visits the area.
“He is a drunk and each time he is inebrated, he behaves abnormally.
“He has been terrorizing us. Everybody knows him around here because of his erratic behavior.”
When contacted on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nkeiruka Nwode, said the matter had not been reported to her office.
Nwode, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said, “Are you sure that the shooter is a policeman?”
