The students of the University of Lagos, Unilag have staged a peaceful protest over the death of their colleague, Oluchi Anekwe, a 300 level accounting student who was yesterday, September 8, electrocuted on her way to her room.
It was gathered that the female student was walking along with her sister in front of “New Hall” bus stop when a high voltage electric cable fell off the pole striking her to death.
According to a student, Oluchi was immediately rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), and later gave up at medical centre.
The protest is on going as at the time of filing this report.
President of the Press Club, Unilag, Tope Ojedele disclosed to us that the student were protesting the negligence of the University authority in ensuring a safe campus.
“the protesting students demanded that the school management, in the spirit of mourning late Oluchi should have declared today (Wednesday) as lecture – free day for students, Tope said.
The protesting students had earlier block the entrance to the main campus, Akoka and staged a walk to the University senate building where they insisted on seeing the vice chancellor Prof. Rahman Bello.
