Police in Enugu State have arrested the 30-year-old son of a traditional ruler for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl at Oduma area of Aninri Local Government Area of the state. Police sources said that the suspect, whose name was given as Ikechi, had been involved in other rape and kidnap cases. It was said that the suspect asked the girl to buy sweets for him with a N100 note and when the victim brought back the sweets, the suspect grabbed her and forcefully slept with her.
Although the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, was not forthcoming on the issue, Vanguard gathered that Ikechi was arrested for raping the girl, who hails from Amorji Quarters in the area. It was gathered that the father of the victim, Mr. Ani, reported the matter to the police, as his daughter was said to be less than nine years.
