Ghana has constructed the first ever canopy walkway in Africa. The $200,000 project is built on the sea in Tema near the Meridian Rock which is believed to be the centre of the world.
The 105-metres long canopy walkway is in the Ave Maria Resort and was constructed using polyester robes, galvanized cables and safety nets. Mr, Kenneth Akuffo, the contracted of the of the canopy walkway assured the general public of safety and emphasized that the materials used in the construction is of the highest quality. Mr. Akuffo was the constructor of the Kakum canopy walkway. He stated;
“Counting the Kakum and Bonsu canopy walkways, this in the third one I have built in the country but it is the first one on the sea in the whole of Africa”.
The Managing director of the Ave Maria Resort, Mrs. Theresa Ntim, revealed that the original plan was to string the canopy walkway from the resort to the Meridian rock to attract more tourists but was handicapped by the financial cost involved.
Mrs Ntim explained that the canopy walkway would be opened for the benefit of the general public at a small fee and called on the government to do more to develop tourism in Ghana.
With this development towards Toursim in Ghana, we can be rest assured that John Dumelo who recently started lending voice on resuscitation of Tourism in Ghana, can now calm down, as his pleas are effecting actions!
