After CBN's recent announcement that customers have to pay N65 if they do cash withdrawals beyond four transactions in a month using other banks' ATM, there comes another customer friendly move from the banks. Those who spend more than 2 minutes inside bank ATMs, they have to pay ‘extra’, yels!
“It will be a ‘nominal’ charge of N50 for every extra second they spend inside the ATMs in non-peak hours which is during evening 5 to 8 PM, when people return back home and weekends, many use ATM. For that period, we will have dynamic price mechanism ” said a Bank official who wanted to remain anonymous.
When we asked what is customer friendly about this charge, the bank official said, “Some people simply pass time inside ATMs taking advantage of the free AC we provide inside. They do more so in hot periods like we have now, and do not think about those who would be standing outside in long queues. With this charge in place people will complete their job quickly and will make way for others”.
“It’s high time our customers should understand we pay rent for the rooms where we install ATMs, huge electricity bill and maintenance cost for AC and UPS. We did multiple trials to check how much time a normal person will take for an ATM transaction. Our conclusion was 2 minutes is more than sufficient, bearing in mind our 'network' strength and chances of swallowing and vomiting cards, 2 mins is Ok for all that, anything more than that, you pay”, said the bank official.
When we asked what next, bank official said, “We are planning on ensuring that customers come to the bank with their water cans/bottles as we've noticed that some people simply walk in to drink cold water from our dispensers and leave just like that'

can someone please save me from this blog. Water cans indeed. Seriously banks should consider the ATM time charge. It's so annoying having people waste others time even to the point of counting money in front of the machine as if the machine makes mistake.
