Politicians from across the country witnessed the “Thanksgiving and Testimony,” of an All Progressives Congress, APC, leader in Enugu State, Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu.
Gbazuagu, a former governorship flag bearer of the defunct Social Democratic Party, SDP, who said he was afflicted by a strange illness for disobeying God, told the congregation at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Anglican Communion, Independence Layout, Enugu that he died three times and “was resurrected by God on each occasion,” as a way of teaching him some lesson.
He said that his offence was that he pledged N100 million for the construction of the cathedral of the newly created Oji River Diocese of the Anglican Communion where he hails from but reneged, hence God had to teach him a hard lesson by allowing him to suffer “more than the Biblical Nebuchadnezzar and Job”.
Those at the service included Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi;, former governors of old Anambra and Enugu States, Chief Jim Nwobodo and Dr Okwesileze Nwodo respectively; the Minister of Labour and Employment and former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chris Ngige; Chief Bode Olajumoke; Chief Kola Abiola; former Senate President and his deputy, Senator Ken Nnamani and Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu respectively; the senator representing Enugu North District, Chuka Utazi; Chief George Mohaghalu; Chief (Mrs) Grace Obayi and Senator Emma Agboti.
Others include Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim Imam, Chief J. B. Onoh, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, Onyemauche Nnamani, Chief Sam Onyishi, Chief Emma Eneukwu, Senators Fidelis Okoro and Ben Collins- Ndu, Anthony Agbo, the Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Chief Bethel Amadi, former Minister of Science and Technology, Prof Barth Nnaji, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Dubem Onyia, and the state Chairman of APC, Chief Ben Nwoye.
Also present were Chief (Mrs) Bessy Belonwu, the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Chief Osita Okechuchukwu, the former Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Prof Luke Anike and the Bishop of Gwagwalada Diocese of the Anglican Communion.
At the church service presided over by the Bishop of Enugu, Right Rev Emmanuel Chukwuma, who was represented by Rev Egemba Arinze, Gbazuagu further said: “For nine months, I did not sleep for two hours each day. I went to different hospitals in the USA, Britain, Israel and India among others without any of the hospitals finding anything wrong but I was becoming lean and lean every day.
“For close to two years, I wore only two dresses and slippers because all my clothes were over- sized. My wife cried and cried to no end. My first daughter also cried in her room every night but there was no solution.
“After promising to donate N100 million out of the N1 billion needed to build the house of God, I reneged and started building an imposing structure for my three daughters. Everyday that the strange sickness lasted, I thought I was not going to see the next day. I suffered more than what Job and Nebuchadnezzar altogether suffered. I did not take any medicine and no doctor cured me.
“I was besieged by a strange illness which imperiled me physically, mentally, psychologically and materially and which defied all available medical solution. However, God Almighty, in His infinite mercy, gave me a second chance and miraculously healed me and granted me absolute recovery in all facets of my life.
“The strange illness afflicted, me thereafter and I continued to emaciate me. The illness denied me of sleep and I was being given tranquilizers all to no avail. I visited many countries including Britain, America, Israel, India, but nothing was diagnosed. I gave up hope after visiting these countries without cure.
“I decided to sell the useless house I was building since there was no sense in putting up such an edifice I will not live in. Immediately, I disposed of the House, I started recovering miraculously.
“It was when I sold the house built on an 8,500 square metres of land; all the structures I had put there, for peanut that I started recovering. God then blessed me again and this came with my daughter’s graduation. God didn’t only return me to life but also made my daughter to get first class in software engineering at the University of Lincoln. God showed me that all material things in the world are vanity upon vanity.”
