The situation has gotten very serious for some members of the Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB) as about 20 supporters of the group facing trial before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were yesterday denied bail by the court.
The accused persons were charged with conspiracy and treason, after protesting recently in Port Harcourt, in solidarity with the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested by security operatives.
In his ruling, the trial Chief Magistrate, Andrew Jaja, stated that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter based on Section 118 of the Criminal Code.
Jaja said the accused persons, who committed felony, would be convicted to death, if found guilty and referred their case to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice. He further ruled that the accused persons should be remanded in the prison custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and adjourned the case till November 26 for mention.
At the end of the day, the person who pushed them into causing trouble for themselves has the best lawyers to defend him, but they.....
