Lol, China has come again..yeah, i wrote so, because this isn't the first time someone is crying out over Chinese copying and manufacturing his product. Dr Dre has once complained and threatened fire and brimstone because a certain Chinese company started manufacturing his Beats By Dre headphones, with lower quality and of course at cheaper price (If you missed it, sorry it's on my first defunct blog). Now they have delved into Automobiles, Range Rover, Evoque at that!..I'm sure some sharp guys go don order for the
The story continues below..
Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr Ralf Speth has vowed to take “whatever steps necessary” to protect his company’s intellectual property from rival Chinese car manufacturer LandWind
Jaguar Land Rover is gearing up to explore all avenues available to them including legal action against LandWind, after the Chinese car brand’s recent release of an SUV that bears a striking, if not near-identical, resemblance to the British manufacturers’ Range Rover Evoque.
..continue.
Speth is said to be livid, and expressed his disappointment over the widespread culture of copying in China, particularly in the car-manufacturing sector.
In an interview with Autocar magazine, Speth said:
“The fact that this kind of copying is ongoing in China is very disappointing. The simple principle is that it is not something that should happen. The intellectual property is owned by Jaguar Land Rover and if you break that IP then you are in breach of international regulations that apply around the world.”
Apart from physical similarities LandWind’s X7 shares with the Range Rover Evoque – the car’s signature body shape, the radiator grille and the lights – at R240 000, the X7 is significantly cheaper than the Evoque, which retails for over R685 000.
Jaguar Land Rover recently opened its first factory plant in China with local partner Chery.
“As a company we have invested heavily in China with our joint venture partner Chery. That commitment is based on a clear business plan that allows us to hit our sales target at clear prices. Anything that damages the potential profitability of our plant, damages the integrity of those plans.
I will talk to our officials and I will talk to our partners at Chery to find a way around this situation. I cannot imagine Chinese officials will be happy at any actions that undermine the credibility of the country,” Speth told Autocar.
LandWind is a joint Chinese business venture between Changan Auto and the Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC).
Changan Auto – which is regarded as one of the top four car manufacturers in China – was brought into South Africa in 2010 through JMC and are behind the BENNI LOVE RHD, a lightweight vehicle specially developed for the South African and Malaysian market.
This is not the first time LandWind has landed in hot water for liberally drawing inspiration from other car brands and models.
Autocar magazine reports that the company previously made headlines for its CV9, a close replica of the Vauxhall Frontera that was sold in Europe. The car had a brief stint on the market before LandWind were forced to remove it following poor Euro NCAP crash tests.
