As Nigeria has been declared Ebola free, Catholic churches in Enugu, today started their long time norm of shaking hands with other congregations as a sign of peace to one another during mass as directed by the Bishop, Rev. V.C Onaga.
The long time norm was halted few months back over Ebola concerns, especially after there were reports of the viral disease in the state. Other dioceses nationwide also joined in the ban as a way to curtail the spread and ensure the safety of their members, also halted was the communal use of holy water positioned at strategic points within churches, in which members dipped their hands into before and after mass to either purify or sanctify themselves. This may also be re-approved, but for now, members are now allowed to shake hands, while they were warned to strictly adhere to high hygienic practices such as hand sanitation and other practices as directed by the health ministry and government!
